Geelong Basketball League Division 1 Preliminary Final Wrap

Try Boys booked a berth in the Geelong Basketball League Division 1 men’s grand final with a nailbiting 62-60 preliminary final win over Vytis.

The Bears will get another crack at Pivot City in the decider after holding off a plucky Knights’ combination.

Veteran big man Marty De Lange proved the difference between the two teams, scoring 18 points in a vintage performance.

Guard duo Chris Daniele (17 points) and Paul Hutchison (11) provided the support to De Lange.

Steve Wiasak was Vytis’s most potent offensive weapon, shooting 11 points.

The Bears’ women ensured both of next week’s grand finals will be Try Boys-Pivot City meetings, winning their preliminary final against Rovers.

They dispatched the minor premier 61-47, as Anna Teague showed her class with a game-high 22 points.

Kendyl Collins (11 points) and Sarah De Grandi (10) also impressed for Try Boys, which is looking to defend its 2011 title.
