GBL Winter Championship Wrap April 23rd

A 28 point-haul from Young Supercat Riley Herbert spearheaded YMCA to an 82-65 win over Vytis in Round 2 of Geelong Basketball League Winter Championship at The Arena on Tuesday night

Herbert and teammate Lewie Varley (21 points) provided Y with formidable one-two punch that the Knights couldn’t contain.

Veteran guard Romas Liebich paced Vytis’ scoring with 15 points, while Andy Przybylkiewicz finished with 14.

Pivot City had too many guns for Rovers in cruising to an 86-37 victory.

Matt McCormack and Zac Moore both had 23 points for the Pivotonians, who all but put the game to bed with a 23-8 opening quarter.

Cameron Mays and Harrison Dolley tried hard for Rovers with eight points apiece.

Sharks made light work of Dolphins with an 86-39 victory.

Five players scored in double-figures for Sharks, led by guard Nathan Moore’s 18 points, as they outscored their opponents 61-25 after the main break.

Jeremy Sands (13 points) was best for Dolphins, who were missing injured big man Ben McCawley and guard Mikey Lesic.

Despite 26 points from veteran big man Marty De Lange, Try Boys suffered a 63-59 loss to Christian College.

Jackson Bentley finished with 22 points for the Eagles, including five bombs from outside the arc, while SEABL Supercat Keith Harrison’s 16 points included four connects from downtown.

Meanwhile Sharks undefeated start to the GBL Championship women’s season continued with an impressive 74-50 win over Dolphins.

SEABL Lady Supercat Alex Duck was the star with 25 points, while Georgia Varley (19 points) and Rebecca Lane (18) were a solid support cast.

Duck’s Geelong skipper Cortney Williamson also had 25 points for Dolphins, while talented big Kim Martin contributed 18.

Caitlin Shadbolt proved the difference in Lara’s 43-36 win over Try Boys.

In her first match back after suffering concussion in the SEABL Lady Supercats win over Launceston, Shadbolt shot 20 points.

Guard Tash Daffy kept an understrength Bears line-up in contention with 15 points.

Rovers came from four points down at three-quarter time to defeat Pivot City 50-48.

Lauren Bellegante (15 points) was the best for Rovers, with teammates Lana Ryder and Sarah Breed both finishing with 12.

Bianca Cheever played a lone-hand for Pivot, scoring 19 points.
