GBL Winter Championship Wrap - Round 6

Pivot City moved two points clear in top of the of the Geelong Basketball League men’s ladder with a 63-55 win over Vytis on at Geelong Arena on Tuesday night.

The Pivotonians trailed by five points at the main break, before outscoring the Knights 38-23 in the second half.

Youngster Dusty Duggan impressed with 21 points for Pivot, while Zac Moore chimed in with 13.

Steve Wiasak (13 points) and Romas Liebich (12) were the standouts for Vytis.

The addition of American Anthony Kimble helped Dolphins to its first win of the season, as they rolled over Rovers 86-59.

Kimble had 21 points, but played second-fiddle to Big V Supercats’ teammate Ben McCawley, who had 30 points.

Harrison Dolley was Rovers ‘ best with 16 points, while Cory Jones dropped 14.

YMCA had too many scoring options in its 72-52 victory over Try Boys.

Four players scored in double figures for Y, with Geelong State Youth Championship duo Riley Herbert (19) and Lewie Varley (16) doing most of the damage.

Veteran big man Marty De Lange (16 points) and Tim Diamond (10) were best for the Bears.

A 26 point haul from Daniel Ferguson spearheaded Sharks narrow 63-58 victory over Christian College.

He was well supported by Seamus Hants and Craig Jarvis, who finished with 12 points apiece.

George Blagojevic led an even Eagles’ performance with 15 points, while Vic Country Under 18 teammate Taylor Dow had 11.

SEABL Lady Supercat Alex Duck played the hero in Sharks 65-63 win over Lara in the GBL women’s competition.

The star guard scored 29 points, including nailing the game-winning shot with less than five seconds to play.

Duck was well supported by Georgia Varley’s 15 points, while Caitlin Shadbolt ensured Lara was competitive with a game-high 32 points.

YMCA opened its season account with a 58-54 win over Try Boys.

Youngster Alana Hocking produced her best game of the season with 18 points, while fellow big Kathy Mallon had 15.

Veteran big Sarah Hyland (nee’ De Grandi) had 20 for the Bears, with guard Tash Daffy contributing 19.

Cortney Williamson proved the difference in Dolphins 62-51 victory over Rovers.

The Lady Supercats’ captain dropped 27 points, while teammate Tiarna Rolph scored 16.

Rovers were paced by 14 points from Ellie Stevens following her return from the United States.
