GBL Winter Championship Round Up - Round 7

DOLPHINS have recorded their first win of the Geelong Basketball League Winter Championship men’s season with a 75-72 win over finals aspirants Vytis at Geelong Arena on Tuesday night

Mikey Lesic turned in another impressive performance, finishing with 22 points, while Big V Supercats’ teammate Anthony Kimble dropped 21.

SEABL Supercats youngster Lachie Headlam was the Knights best with 23 points. Forward Steve Wiasak also kept the scoreboard ticking over with 19.

Christian College moved back into the top four with a 71-52 win over Pivot City.

Scores were tied 28-all at half-time, before the Eagles blew the game open with a 21-7 third quarter.

Five players scored in double figures for Christian College, led by 18 points from Taylor Dow.

Fellow young gun Dusty Duggan again impressed for the Pivotonians with 21 points.

A stunning shooting performance from Dane Bow helped Sharks maintain top spot with an 86-60 victory over Try Boys.

Bow finished with 30 points, which including five three-pointers. In all Sharks landed 12 shots from downtown.

Big man Marty De Lange was again the main offensive threat for the Bears, scoring 21 points, while youngster Liam Meyrich contributed 18.

Meanwhile Sharks have moved four points clear on top of the GBL Winter Championship women’s ladder with a 52-43 win over Try Boys.

However the ladder leaders didn’t have it all their own way against the winless Bears, trailing 27-25 at the main break.

A 17-7 third quarter proved to be the difference, with Sharks taking an eight point advantage into the final quarter.

Twin towers Caitlin Shadbolt (22 points) and Abby Schrader (18) proved the difference in Lara’s 68-43 victory over Pivot City.

The win has the Giants sitting third on the ladder on percentage.

Veteran Sarah Jeffreys was the only Pivot player in double figures, scoring 15 on the back of five three-point bombs.

Rovers had too many big guns for YMCA in a comfortable 65-43 win.

Ellie Stevens and Grace Parker both finished with 18 points for Rovers,

Veteran guard Vicki King paced Y with 13 points.
