GBL Winter Championship Round Up - Round 12

Try Boys and Dolphins have played out a thrilling 78-all tie in Geelong Basketball League men’s Winter Championship action on Tuesday night at the Arena.

Dolphins had the best of the early exchanges, leading 28-18 at quarter time.

However the Bears fought back to within three points at the main break, and from then on the margin never went beyond single figures.

Chris Daniele was the star for Try Boys with 32 points, while veteran big Marty De Lange produced a vintage 26-point performance.

Big V Supercats teammates Mikey Lesic (28 points) and Anthony Kimble (20 points) were Dolphins best, combining to make 10 three-point attempts.

YMCA maintained top spot in the ladder with an entertaining 90-87 win over Christian College.

Y trailed by three points at three-quarter time, but outscored the Eagles 26-20 in the final period to claim win number 10 of the season.

Lewie Varley top scored for YMCA with 30 points, while Mitch Herbert contributed 21.

Christian College again produced an even spread of scorers, led by 22 points from George Blagojevic.

Rovers claimed its first win of the season in emphatic fashion, hammering an undermanned Vytis 69-39.

The result was never in doubt after half time, with Rovers taking a 34-13 advantage into the main break.

Adam Coombes (18 points) and Simon Robertson (16 points) again impressed for Rovers.

Romas Liebich (21) played a lone hand for the Knights, who went in without star duo Steve Wiasak and Lachie Headlam.

SEABL Supercat Ash Cannan starred with 28 points in Pivot City’s 75-62 victory over Sharks.

The win has the Pivotonians two points clear in second spot.

Dane Bow (19 points) and big man Shane Hunter (16) kept Sharks competitive.

Sharks remain on top of the GBL women’s Winter Championship ladder, but not before being given a fright by Pivot City.

Pivot, who needed a win to stay in touch with the top four, held a one-point lead at three-quarter time, before Sharks stormed home with a 22-15 final term.

SEABL Lady Supercat Alex Duck (25 points) and Georgia Varley (23) were the cornerstones of Sharks win.

Bianca Cheever (21 points) and Lauren Moloney (19) did all they could for Pivot City.

Dolphins remained in the hunt for a top-two finish after a 69-47 victory over Try Boys.

Four players scored in double figures for the winners, with Cortney Williamson best with 19 points.

Katherine Brockett played a lone hand for the Bears with 29 points.

YMCA made the most of the absence of key Lara duo Caitlin Shadbolt and Abby Schrader to record its second win of the season, 53-36.

Sister act Vicki King (19 points) and Kathy Mallon (16) were the keys to Y’s win.

Natalie Wallace was the Giants best with 15 points.
