Director of Development & Pathways Appointment

Basketball Geelong is pleased to announce the appointment of Bruce Hultgren as the associations new Director of Development and Pathways.

The appointment of someone of Bruce’s calibre highlights the continued strides forward Basketball Geelong’s development and pathways program has taken in the past 18 months.

Bruce’s involved in basketball is unsurpassed. He is widely regarded for his basketball brain and his reputation has been built on a long and successful career as both a player and a coach at the highest levels.

After have a junior playing career that included State team representation, Bruce started playing SEABL at the aged of 17 with the Eltham Wildcats. At age 20 Bruce progressed to the NBL where he played 205 games with the North Melbourne Giants and then the Geelong Supercats. Bruce’s 14 year career finished following a 3 year stint with Keilor in the SEABL.

Since 1991 Bruce has been involved in Coaching at many levels including Elite junior programs, SEABL (Geelong Supercats) and internationally, including in the United States. Bruce is the only Australian to have written and developed a coaching program that is now being run across America as a development program for kids.

Basketball Geelong Chair, Chris Burrell, said today “we are very excited at Bruce’s appointment to this important position within our Development and Pathways Program.”

“Pathways is one of the core strategic pillars within the Basketball Geelong 2013-2016 Strategic Plan. Bruce’s appointment is an integral step towards Basketball Geelong achieving its strategic goal of having a pathways, development and talent identification program which is the envy of all other associations.”
