GBL Winter Championship Round Up - Round 18

YMCA has moved two points clear on top of the Geelong Basketball League Winter Championship men’s ladder following an 87-75 win over fellow title contender Pivot City at the Arena on Tuesday night.

Y laid the foundation for the victory with a 43-28 first half.

The Pivotonians pulled the margin back to 10 points at three-quarter-time, however YMCA held firm to all but seal the minor premiership.

Lewie Varley again starred for Y, pouring in 30 points, while teammate Riley Herbert had 18.

SEABL Supercat Ash Cannan was again the mainstay for Pivot City, working hard for his 25 points.

Rovers fell agonisingly short of their third win of the season, beaten by a point by Try Boys.

They took a two-point lead into the last break, however the Bears were able to sneak home 56-55.

Chris Daniele (17 points) and Steve Hyland (15) were best for Try Boys. Chris Eichler again impressed for Rovers with 15 points, while Harrison Dolley scored 13.

A stunning outside shooting performance from Jackson Bentley proved to be the difference in Christian College’s 103-62 victory over Dolphins.

He exploded for 41 points, including nine three-pointers. Brother Lukas was also busy with 17 points.

Dolphins were best served by American Anthony Kimble’s 33 points.

Sharks kept alive their slim chance of securing the double-chance with an 81-67 result against Vytis.

Dane Bow (22 points) and Craig Jarvis (17) were instrumental in the win, which was made possible by a 23-14 final quarter.

Lachie Headlam (24 points) and Romas Liebich (16) kept the Knights competitive.

Dolphins have fallen out of the GBL Winter Championship women’s top four after being on the end of a 98-31 hiding from Lara.

The win by the Giants has all but ensured they will be part of post season action.

SEABL Lady Supercat duo Caitlin Shadbolt (31 points) and Abby Schrader (26) proved a handful for a Dolphins roster missing talented duo Cortney Williamson and Ebony Rolph.

Tiarna Rolph was the only Dolphins player to score in double figures, finishing with 14.

Pivot City made the most of Dolphins loss, replacing them in fourth position after a 67-48 victory over YMCA.

A 23-8 second quarter proved decisive, as Pivot went from a five-point lead to a 20-point advantage at the main break.

Guard combination Olivia Cameron (17 points) and Bianca Cheever (15) starred for Pivot City.

Charmaine Ferguson was best Y with 23 points, while Alana Hocking had 11.

Rovers locked away the double chance with an 82-32 hammering of Try Boys.

Ellie Stevens proved a class above with 34 points for Rovers.

12 points from Elise Flynn was best for a Bears squad that was missing Sarah DeGrandi and Katherine Brockett.
