GBL Winter Championship Round Up - Round 20

Dolphins have fallen agonisingly short of snatching the remaining GBL Winter Championship women’s finals berth after suffering a 60-56 loss to Rovers at the Arena on Tuesday night.

After trailing by 12 at half-time, Dolphins came flying home, outscoring Rovers 34-26. However it wasn’t enough to claim the three points they needed to play finals.

SEABL Lady Supercats captain Cortney Williamson poured in 23 points for Dolphins.

Rovers were best served by 14 points apiece from Kylie Morrissy and Grace Parker.

Dolphins loss means Lara remained inside the top four, despite losing to Sharks 72-61.

The Giants went into the clash without star big Caitlin Shadbolt, leaving Abby Schrader to play a lone hand.

The American did all she could, finishing with a season-high 37 points.

However Sharks had too many offensive options, with five players, led by 20 points from Alex Duck, scoring in double figures.

YMCA went close to blowing a 23-point lead, before steadying to defeat Try Boys 60-53.

Alana Hocking (16 points), Kathy Mallon (15) and Charmaine Ferguson (14) provided the bulk of Y’s scoring.

Veteran big Sarah De Grandi finished with 20 points for the Bears, while star guard Natasha Daffy had 19.

Sharks will take a slight edge into next week’s GBL Winter Championship men’s first semi-final after a 75-68 win over Christian College.

The two teams will meet again on Tuesday night after ending the season in third and fourth position.

Guard duo James Deocampo (18 points) and Dane Bown (13) were again impressive for Sharks.

The Eagles, who went into the contest without SEABL Supercat Liam McInerney, were best served by 19 points from Joel McFall.

YMCA finished with the minor premiership following a comfortable 77-57 win over Try Boys.

Y led by just two points at the main break, but proved too strong from that point on, outscoring the Bears 43-28.

Kris Van Parreren shot well from outside to finish with 25 points, with Emerson Varley chiming in with 14.

Steve Hyland scored 16 points for the Bears, while playing coach Glenn Sharp had 13.

Big man Ash Cannan proved to be the difference in Pivot City’s 80-68 defeat of Vytis.

The power forward was dominant inside, finishing with 31 points. He was well supported by 20 points from Zach Moore.

Steve Wiasak (17 points) and Lachie Headlam (15) led the Knights’ charge.

Dolphins ended a disappointing winter on a high, coming from behind at half-time to beat Rovers 64-62.

Anthony Kimble capped a fine season with 28 points, while teammate Mikey Lesic contributed 19.

Chris Eichler starred for Rovers with 26 points, while Josh Symons finished with 16.
