GBL Winter Championship Round Up - Finals Week 2

A second quarter burst proved the difference, as Pivot City booked a berth in the GBL Winter Championship grand final.

The Pivotonians trailed Christian College in the moments after the teams emerged from their quarter-time huddles, but then went on a burst that would give them a 14-point lead at the main break.

Despite numerous mini-runs, the Eagles were unable to get the margin below double-figures, as Pivot City ran out 83-68 winners.

SEABL Supercat Ash Cannan was the star of the night, scoring 30 points as he dominated in the paint.

Jason Reardon was also impressive with 22 points.

Liam McInerney top scored for Christian College with 19 points, while Jackson Bentley and George Blagojevic both had 11.

Pivot City will now meet YMCA in the next Tuesday’s final as they look to make it consecutive winter titles.

Meanwhile Sharks created history by booking a berth in its first ever women’s championship decider with a gritty 60-50 win over Pivot City.

After making a fast start to the contests, Pivot still held sway at three-quarter-time, leading by two points.

However Sharks, on the back of 16 points from Lady Supercats star Alex Duck, were able to outscore their opponents 26-14 in the final period.

Duck was well supported by Rebecca Lane (14 points), Jade Mitchell (13) and Georgia Varley (11).

Guard duo Bianca Cheever (15 points) and Olivia Cameron (14 points) ensured Pivot City was in the contest until the last minute.

Sharks will now meet Rovers, who defeated them in the second semi-final, in the grand final.
