GBL Winter Championship Division 1 Wrap- Round 5

A STUNNING shooting display from Lauren Bellegante has helped Rovers claim top spot after Round 5 of the GBL Winter Championship women’s season on Tuesday night.

Bellegante knocked down eight three pointers on her way to a game-high 30-point haul as Rovers proved too strong for Lara 98-62.

The match was effectively over as a contest at quarter time when Rovers led 30-13.

Ellie Stevens, playing her first match since returning from the United States for the College break, chimed in with 22 points.

Ashleigh Rozenfeld was the Giants best with 16 points, with star big Caitlin Shadbolt held to just six points.

Dolphins were made to work for their 61-52 win over an undermanned YMCA.

Trailing by as much as nine points during the third quarter, Dolphins outscored Y 18-7 in the final period.

SEABL Lady Supercats captain Cortney Williamson was the catalyst for the comeback, finishing with 27 points, while Kim Martin contributed 14.

The impressive early season form of Maddy Taylor continued as she poured in 22 points for Y, with big Kathy Mallon dropping 16.

Pivot City led from start to finish in its 63-41 result against Try Boys.

Led by 17 points from talented youngster Alli Marsh, Pivot was in control of the contest all night.

Marsh was well supported by Shayna Poto’s 12 points.

For the Bears it was again Tash Daffy (13 points) and Kendyl Collins (12) who did the bulk of the scoring.

Christian College claimed its second win of the men’s Winter Championship season on the back of 32 points from Jackson Bentley.

Bentley starred from outside with seven three’s, as the Eagles claimed a 92-73 victory over YMCA.

Veteran big man Seb Loader was also impressive with 16 points while Conner Hultgren contributed 15.

Lewie Varley paced Y’s scoring with 23 points, with brother Emerson and Kris Van Parreren both finishing with 14.

Pivot City maintained top spot with a 74-48 win over Try Boys.

The reigning champions led by just four points at the main break, but proved too strong in the second half as they outscored the Bears 41-18, including a 22-7 final period.

Jason Reardon was again the star for the Pivotonians. He finished with 23 points, while Steve Packer (15 points) and veteran Adam Clapinski (13) had solid nights.

Hayden Bourke (14 points) and Mitch Norton (11) were best for Try Boys.

Lara has jumped to second on the ladder with a 74-63 win over Vytis.

SEABL Supercats star Ash Cannan was again instrumental for the Giants, dominating with 23 points.

He was well supported by fellow big man Lindsay Cole (15 points) and Michael Hammond (10.).

Veteran guard Romas Liebich produced another solid effort shooting 14 points, with Jono Payne dropping 13.
