GBL Winter Championship Division 1 Wrap- Round 12

Basketball Geelong

YMCA has put itself back in the frame for a top-two finish after a 72-62 win over Christian College in Geelong Basketball League action at Corio Leisuretime Centre on Tuesday night.

Y made the most of an 18-9 third quarter to claim an important victory.

Riley Herbert was again impressive with 25, while Emerson Varley had 20.

With Liam McInerney unavailable, the Eagles relied on Jack Burnett (17 points) and Seb Loader (16) to provide their interior presence.

Star shooter Jackson Bentley finished with nine points.

An even team performance helped ladder leader Pivot City to a 57-39 win over Try Boys.

The Pivotonians didn’t have it all their own way, leading by just two at three-quarter time.

However, a 20-4 final period proved decisive.

Nick Kent and Matt Staehr both had nine points for Pivot City, while the Bears were best served by Chris Daniele’s 16 points.

Lara consolidated its spot inside the top four with a 96-78 result against Vytis.

Despite missing star big Ash Cannan, the Giants were too good for the Knights.

Rob Harding exploded for 32 points, including 16 in the last quarter, while Lindsay Cole scored 22.

Vytis was again paced by 25 points from Steve Wiasak, with Marty Liebich contributing 19.

Rovers overcame a slow start to claim a crucial win over Dolphins in women’s action.

They trailed by five points at quarter time, before setting up the 60-52 victory with an 18-8 second period.

Caidie Swayn was the star for Rovers with 20 points, while Lauren Bellegante scored 16.

Missing SEABL Lady Supercats’ captain Cortney Williamson, big duo Kim Martin (14 points) and TJ Rolph (12) tried hard for Dolphins.

Try Boys claimed just its second win of the season with a 59-39 result against fellow struggler Lara.

On the back of 24 points from teenage guard Kendyl Collins, the Bears led at every change to claim the points.

As well as Collins, veteran Lauren Green finished with 12 points.

Tayla Reid (14 points) was best for a Giants roster missing Caitlin Shadbolt.

Pivot City continued its rapid rise with a 70-45 win against Sharks.

The win by fourth-placed Pivot has opened up a five-point gap between them and Sharks with seven rounds remaining.

The fine form of Lauren Moloney (19 points) continued, with Alli Marsh, Mel Holmes and Maddie Boyd all scoring 12 points.

Georgia Varley was the lone Shark in double figures, finishing with 15 points.
