Geelong coaches to represent Vic Country
Two Geelong Basketball coaches have been named to lead teams at the Australian Country Cup junior championships.
Veteran Rod Boone and up-and-coming coach Chris Clyne were this week given the nod to take charge of Country Victoria teams at the championships, which will be held at Albury from January 13-19.
Boone and Clyne, both current under-18 boys coaches in the Basketball Geelong representative program, have had experience at national junior level and are thrilled with their appointments.
Rod has coached in Country Victoria programs since 1992, being involved in the BVCC Junior Academy, specialist skills days and the National Intensive Training Centre Program.
After coaching for five years at the Pacific Coast Slam, held in Port Macquarie, NSW, where he won a gold medal in 2004, this will be Rod's second year at the Country Cup.
``It is always an honour to be selected to coach such gifted athletes at this prestigious event,'' said Rod.
For relative newcomer Clyne, this will be his first experience at the Country Cup event.
Involved in similar junior development programs to Rod, Chris is enthusiastic about the knowledge he will obtain from his participation at Albury.
"This is an exciting opportunity for me and I'm hoping the team will be very competitive and do well".
