Division One Men & Women Game Reviews - Round 6

YMCA has lost its perfect record to start the Basketball Geelong Division One women’s championship.

Perhaps fortunate to avoid defeat, YMCA drew 55-55 in a basket-for-basket game with fourth-placed Pivot City at The Arena on Tuesday night.

Charmaine Ferguson was outstanding with a season-high 27 points for YMCA, and was well-supported by fellow Lady Cats Jae Conn (15 points) and Vicki Mallon (11 Points).

Youngster Tayla Robertson has been an excellent recruit to Division One as she and Olivia Cameron combined with 14 points each for Pivot City.

Rovers rejoiced at the return of Kylie Morrissey from Troy University in the United States, as she led them to a 63-60 victory over Try Boys.

Morrissey scored 22 points and was assisted by Lana Ryder-Kowalski (16 points), while Katherine Brockett had a game-high 24 points for Try Boys to go with Sarah De Grandi’s  10 points.

Rovers Hawks added a much-needed win to their tally, defeating Sharks, 56-35.

Up-and-coming youngsters Ellie Stevens (18 points), Jess Watson (14 points) and Emily Koroneos (13 points) continue to improve for Rovers Hawks.

Rachel Alldis (11 points) and Leah Marriner (10 points) put in a good effort for the struggling Sharks.

PIVOT City is starting to make an impression on the Basketball Geelong Division One men’s championship.

With Supercat Daniel George leading the charge with 29 points,  Pivot City defeated YMCA, 72-64, at The Arena on Tuesday night.

 

A strong start by Pivot set up the win as Adam Clapinski added 15 points and Trevor Hartick hit 14 points.

YMCA was well-served by Jordan Hill (16 points) and Kris Van Parreren (15 points).

 

Try Boys Bears continue their dominance, defeating Sharks, 81-62.

Big V captain Paul Hutchison was pivotal in the Bears’ win, scoring a game-high 26 points. Martin De Lange added a handy 17 points.

Dane Bow (22 points) was best for Sharks, who, despite a good third quarter, could not match it with the opposition.

 

Stablemates Try Boys also had a good win, taking down Sharks Runners, 69-44.

Joshua Donaldson was solid with 23 points for Try Boys, while Chris Daniele added 19 points.

Youngster Emerson Varley was once again reliable with 13 points for Sharks Runners.

 

YMCA Cougars dominated the young Dolphins in a 29 point victory, 66-37.

Peter Van Der Burg was unstoppable for YMCA Cougars shooting an amazing 34 points.

Best for Dolphins were Basketball Geelong Youth League players Simon Evans and Ben Gray with 11 points each.

 

The upset of the round was the 32-point defeat of Rovers by Vytis, 79-47.

Romas Liebich established his presence with 18 points while youngster Lachy Headlam was solid with 15 points. Rovers was led by Lucas Kenny (18 points).
