YMCA has signalled its intent to be a major factor in the Basketball Geelong Division One men’s championship.

Squared up with title contender Try Boys Bears, YMCA scored a come-from-behind 63-59 win at The Arena on Tuesday night.

Trailing by one at three-quarter time, YMCA outscored the Bears 18-13 in the final period as Jordan Hill (21 points) and Rod O’Brien (19 points) rounded out big games.

Guard Paul Hutchison (24 points) was the high scorer for Try Boys Bears, while Marty De Lange (15 points) also contributed.

Pivot City continued to make in-roads towards a playoff spot with a 57-43 win over Rovers.

Trevor Hartwick (18 points) and Wes Pickett (15 points) led Pivot City, while Reece Dumbell, Scott Dumbell and Brenton O’Brien all hit eight points for Rovers.

Try Boys scored an important 62-37 win over YMCA Cougars as Chris Daniele (14 points) led the way. Mitch Herbert (15 points) paced the Cougars.

Christian College Eagles showed no mercy with a 105-34 flogging of Sharks Runners as Chris Dunlop (27 points), Nick Owusu (24 points) and Seb Loader (20 points) went to work.

Likewise, Sharks ran up a 105-24 victory over Dolphins with Daniel Weaver (18 points) leading all scorers in a spread offensive effort.

 

YMCA has suffered its first loss in the Basketball Geelong Division One women’s championship.

Despite a good start and a 17-6 quarter-time lead, YMCA was simply outplayed the rest of the way by Try Boys en route to a 43-36 win at The Arena on Tuesday night.

Try Boys outscored YMCA 29-13 in the middle two quarters as forward Anisa Sijersic (18 points) led the way, supported by Tash Daffy (nine points).

Madison Koehler (10 points) and Vicki Mallon (10 points) were the main contributors for YMCA.

Guard Prue Kenny was at her blistering best as she poured in 42 points as Rovers smashed Sharks, 105-34.

With periods of 10, 12, 14 and six points, Kenny almost rivalled her season-high of 47, while Lana Ryder-Kowalski added 25 points.

Kelly Snell (10 points) was the high scorer for Sharks.

A big 17-point opening quarter by Olivia Cameron (27 points) helped Pivot City to a 62-51 win over Rovers Hawks.

Ellie Stevens (19 points) played something of a lone hand for Rovers Hawks.
