Lanard Copeland AND1 Basketball Camp

Some of Australia’s greatest basketball talent will be in Geelong during the first week of July for the And1 Lanard Copeland Basketball Camp.

Staged in conjunction with Basketball Geelong, the three-day school holiday camp will feature Copeland, a veteran of 15 NBL seasons and a two-time championship winner, as the head coach.

But Copeland will be assisted during the June 30-July 2 camp by four-time Olympian Mark Bradtke, NBL legend Darryl McDonald and former LA Lakers guard Sedale Threatt.

The star-studded coaching line-up is the best ever put together for a camp in Geelong and will offer young basketballers a unique chance to learn and improve their games.

``These guys all know their stuff,’’ Copeland, the head coach of Geelong’s Big V men’s team, said. ``As well as being my good friends, they have been great players and have a great knowledge and passion for basketball.

``For a young player to be able to learn from people like D-Mac and Mark Bradtke, it’s too good an opportunity to miss.’’

Aside from playing at four Olympic Games, Bratdke had a season in the NBA with the Philadelphia 76ers, but is best known as the NBL’s all-time leading rebounder.

Possibly the best Australian big man to have played the game, Bradtke won three NBL championships, two with the Melbourne Tigers.

Recently retired after winning his third NBL championship, McDonald might be the best point guard ever to have played the game in Australia.

A brilliant passer and excellent defender, McDonald finished his career second on the NBL’s all-time assists list and first all-time in steals.

A veteran of five NBA teams over 14 seasons, Threatt’s best years might have been with the LA Lakers, where he replaced Magic Johnson in the line-up and went on to lead the team in scoring (15.1 ppg) and assists (6.9 apg).

Having lived in Australia for several years, Threatt is head coach of SEABL team, Nunawading Spectres.

The camp, which will be staged at The Arena from June 30-July 2, will cost $150 per child and each camper will receive tuition, a t-shirt and a ball.
