YMCA woman lead the Division One Competition

PIVOT City continues to signal its intention to be a challenger for the Basketball Geelong Division One men’s championship.

Although it was a battle, Pivot picked up a valuable 46-40 win over Try Boys at The Arena on Tuesday night to shore up a spot in the top four on the ladder.

In a tight, low-scoring game, Pivot edged Try Boys by virtue of a 21-16 first half as Adam Clapinski (15 points) led the scoring with help from James Kingsbury (13 points).

Josh Donaldson (22 points) played something of a lone hand for the young Try Boys team in a brave effort.

Rovers scored a much-needed win, getting over Sharks Runners, 69-62.

Scott Dumbell (25 points) and Aaron Lothian (21 points) led Rovers with excellent performances, while Emerson Varley (19 points) was best for Sharks Runners.

YMCA needed to be close to its best to hold off a strong effort by club-mates YMCA Cougars, 70-54.

Veteran Jordan Hill (25 points) and Tristan Johnson (23 points) led the way for YMCA, while young Mitch Herbert (17 points) was the high man for YMCA Cougars.

In other games, Christian College Eagles took care of Vytis, 94-65, while Try Boys Bears cleaned up Dolphins, 113-46.

YMCA enjoyed a strong win over Rovers, maintaining its holds on top spot on the BG Division One women’s ladder.

After holding Rovers to just one point in the first period, YMCA led 29-10 at the half and went on to post a 57-37 win at The Arena on Tuesday night.

Charmaine Ferguson hit six three-pointers on the way to a game-high 24 points, while Vicki Mallon (19 points) also played a big game for YMCA.

Kylie Morrissy overcame a slow start to finish with 17 points for Rovers.

Pivot City had to work hard to score a 62-48 win over Sharks.

Olivia Cameron overcame foul trouble to finish with 16 points for Pivot City, while young centre Tayla Robertson matched that effort with 16 points, including 13 in the second half.

Rachel Alldis was the Sharks high scorer with 14 points.
