Geelong Stars In Line for Big V Awards

Paul Hutchinson

Several Geelong players, men and women, have been nominated for the end-of-season Big V awards, including Most Valuable Player.

Those in line for MVP honours are Paul Hutchison (Division One men), Candice Rogers (Championship women) and Steven Wiasak (Youth League 2 men), placing them among the Big V elite.

Of the three, Hutchison might have the best chance of picking up an MVP award given Geelong finished second on the Division One men’s ladder and he hit an impressive 20.5 ppg.

Despite the best effort of Rogers and Wiasak, the Geelong women and youth league men failed to make the playoffs, which may leave them short of votes.

Geelong has four nominations for the Division One men’s All-Star Five with Chris Brown (forward), Hutchison and Keith Harrison (guards) and Seb Loader (centre) under consideration.

Interestingly, Wiasak was not nominated for All-Star Five consideration, but talented youngster Nathan Pigott was.

In the women’s All-Star Five nominations, Geelong has Rogers, Prue Kenny and Charmaine Ferguson on the list of forwards

All the Big V awards will be announced and presented at a gala dinner on September 6.
