Division One Finals showdown

YMCA has set-up a showdown with Christian College Eagles for the Basketball Geelong Division One men’s championship.

It is a dream match-up given these two teams have been at the top of the ladder all season and is expected to go down to the buzzer.

It will also be a chance of revenge for YMCA, which was humbled by Christian College in the semi-finals and has a lot of work to do for redemption.

But Y started down that redemptive path by beating Try Boys Bears, 72-62, in the preliminary final at The Arena on Tuesday night.

In a close game throughout, YMCA gained the decisive edge through Chris Brown (22 points), Tristan Johnson (17 points) and Jordan Hill (11 points).

Veterans Marty De Lange (23 points) and Paul Hutchison (17 points) paced Try Boys, but could not get their team over the hump with the season on the line.

The grand final battle between YMCA and Christian College could be fiery and one to watch when they lock horns at The Arena next Tuesday night (tip-off 9pm).

TRY Boys did qualify for the BG Division One women’s championship grand final, shrugging off a determined Rovers in the preliminary final.

Considered a strong favourite going into the game, Try Boys needed a solid, all-round effort to get over Rovers, 66-55, at The Arena on Tuesday night.

Veteran forward Lauren Houston (13 points) and young guard Tash Daffy (12 points) led Try Boys while livewire guard Ash Salter (10 points) played a key role.

As always, Tania Du Plessis (13 points), Lana Ryder-Kowalski (13 points) and Sherrie Noonan (12 points) were strong for Rovers, but ultimately came up short.

Try Boys will play YMCA in the grand final at The Arena on Tuesday night (tip-off 7.30pm).
