Christian College Eagles’ rise to the top of the Basketball Geelong Division One men’s championship is complete.

Having established itself as a force to be reckoned with, Christian College made it official by winning the BG championship over YMCA at The Arena on Tuesday night.

In a grand final that was defined by its competitive edge and high-quality basketball, Christian College had to play out the whole 40 minute before claiming the 85-73 victory.

The man behind the Christian College triumph was guard Nick Owusu, who lit up The Arena and YMCA for a game-high 35 points.

It was a brilliant performance by the lightning quick Owusu and meant that Christian College only needed Seb Loader (15 points) as its other double-digit scorer.

YMCA had a better spread of scorers as veteran Jordan Hill (21 points), Kris Van Parreren (12 points), Tristan Johnson (10 points) and Ben Suchanek (10 points) got involved.

But in the end, Christian College’s greater talent and depth was too much down the stretch.

After sitting on top of the ladder all season, YMCA claimed the BG Division One women’s championship.

Pushed hard by Try Boys in the grand final at The Arena on Tuesday night, YMCA lifted the title with a 67-57 win in the decider.

Try Boys certainly had their chances to take the initiative in the game, but could not get over the hump when it mattered against a relatively composed YMCA line-up.

Centre Candice Rogers (21 points) led the way for Y, while Maddison Koehler (16 points) and Charmaine Ferguson (15 points) provided valuable efforts.

Forward Anisa Sijersic (23 points) worked hard all game for Try Boys while centre Sarah De Grandi (10 points) provided an inside presence.
