Scannell hits 86 points in hopes of securing a Big V position

As the Basketball Geelong Big V teams make their final preparations for next weekend’s season opener one local player is looking to cement his spot in the Youth League Team.

Ben Scannell hit 86 points in the U23 Basketball Geelong competition for his club Rovers on Thursday Night. His haul resulted in his team having a win over YMCA 108-56, though YMCA were not at full strength with Supercats player Kris Van Parreren not taking the court.

Scannell has had an impressive pre-season with the youth league side and the improvement in his shooting and fitness more than evident last night as he hit 10 - 3 pointers.

“It's going to be a tough decision for coach Dave Brown to select his team each week” says General Manager, Amy Hawthorne.

“There are only 12 spots each game and with over 25 boys training hard at each session and playing well in their club games, some tough choices are going to be made” she continued.

The Youth League Men narrowly missed out on a finals berth last season, but with most of the team returning and a few welcomed additions they will be looking to continue well into the playoffs this season.

The Big V Season kicks off for Geelong next Saturday 21st March
