Big V Geelong Preview (Round 4)

Olivia Cameron pass

Geelong Lady Cats (1-3)

Big V State Championship

vs. Bulleen (2-1) @ Templestowe Leisure Centre, Sunday 3.00pm

Sunday's match-up with the improved Bulleen has an interesting sub-plot, with last years wooden spooner adding former Lady Cat Candice Rogers (10ppg and 11rpg) to the line-up. The former All-Stars battle with teenage star Amy Wormald (10ppg, 9rpg) will be a key one. Veteran Lauren Green is likely to miss for Geelong, while assistant coach Dave Cations will step-up to take the reins in the absence of head coach Darren Busuttil. If the Lady Cats can bring a similar intensity to the clash with the Boomers that they did in the narrow loss to Waverley a fortnight ago, and get contributions from veteran big Sarah De Grandi and guards Vicki Mallon and Sophie Templeton, an upset is not out of the question.

Geelong Cats (2-2)

Big V Division One

vs. Sunbury (3-0) @ The Arena Annexe, Saturday 7.30pm

In a re-match of last years grand final, Geelong will be looking to exact some sort of revenge on the Jets. The Cats, who upset Southern Peninsula last round, will be strengthened by the return of starting trio, captain Paul Hutchison, centre Seb Loader and shooting guard Keith Harrison, along with back-up big man Leon O'Neill. Guard Pat Phillips is expected to miss again after dislocating his shoulder in the loss to Werribee on March 28. Cats coach Greg Smith may decide to return to retirement after his cameo appearance against Southern Peninsula, however if he again suits up he'll give Geelong a guard rotation the envy of every other team in the competition. The unbeaten Jets have plenty of firepower, including Mark Rizza (26ppg), who the Cats will have to contain.

Geelong Cats (3-2)

Big V Youth League Two

vs. Keilor (0-3) @ Keilor Basketball Stadium, Saturday 4.30pm

vs. Hawthorn (4-0) @ The Arena Annexe, Sunday 2.00pm

A big chance for the Cats to consolidate a spot in the top six with their last double-header weekend until the final round of the season. Coach Dave Brown will be hoping key shooter Ben Scannell (14ppg) has recovered from an ankle injury suffered against Werribee a fortnight ago as his combination with point guard Nathan Moore is vital to the Cats set-up. Despite being winless, Keilor is always a tough proposition on its own floor, and will be a tough match-up. The Youth League boys then back-up against Hawthorn on Sunday at home, hoping to improve on the 20 point loss to the Magic on opening night.
