BG Championship Wrap (Round 2)

A one-point thriller between YMCA and Pivot City has highlighted round two of the Basketball Geelong men's championship on Tuesday night.

With scores tied with less than 10 seconds on the clock, former Supercats captain Jordan Hill went to the free-throw line to win the game for Y.

His first from the stripe hit the front of the iron.

However his second put his side up 49-48, and despite a three-point attempt on the buzzer from Pivot guard Nick Kent, after a smart pass from veteran centre Mark Griffin, Y held on for victory.

Hill, who retired from the Supercats at the end of 2008, finished with 16 points, while big man Tristan Johnson had 13.

For Pivot, who were missing Supercats big man Daniel George (ankle) and young shooting sensation Stefan Osborne, Jason Reardon had 19 points, while Adam Clapinski chipped in with 16.

In the other men's games Lara Giants, thanks to 15 points from Michael Hammond, defeated Tigers 56-44.

Sharks Grey belted clubmates Sharks Black 88-32 , with Supercats' back-up guard Dane Bow leading all scorers with 22.

Chris Dunlop had 23 points as reigning summer champions' Christian College defeated Vytis 65-43.

And Try Boys Bears didn't have it all their own way, trailing at half-time, before outscoring Dolphins 38-21 in the second half for a 63-52.

In the women's competition, Lady Cats' American import Audrey Muse made her domestic debut with Sharks, however it wasn't enough to upset the undefeated YMCA line-up.

Muse had 16 points, but it was Y and Lady Cats' skipper Vicki Mallon who took the scoring honours with 18 points in a 40-38 victory.

And it was also a two point margin in the all Rovers affair, with Rovers Hawks, thanks to 19 points from talented youngster Ellie Stevens, triumphing over their more experience counterparts 51-49.
