Big V Geelong Preview (Round 9)
Geelong Lady Cats (2-7)
Big V State Championship
vs. Bulleen (6-3) @ The Arena Annexe, Saturday 7.30pm
The Lady Cats return from a weekâs break needing to upset the Boomers to get their season back on track. Geelong will take plenty of confidence from its previous meeting with Bulleen in round four. Darren Busuttilâs charges fell short by just five points and were without American Audrey Muse and talented youngster Maddy Taylor. New Zealand international Lisa Pardon (15.4 ppg) is the key for the Boomers, and it will be up to the Lady Catsâ guard rotation of Olivia Cameron, Tash Daffy and co-captain Vicki Mallon to curb her influence. The game also marks former Geelong star Candice Rogers first game at The Arena Annexe since her off-season departure.
Geelong Cats (7-4)
Big V Division One
vs. Bulleen (9-2) @ Veneto Club, Sunday 3.00pm
Confidence is high in the Geelong camp following Sundayâs 22 point demolition of Sherbrooke. Bulleen at home will be a tough proposition for the Cats. The Boomers have a number of scoring options, but were far from convincing in wins last weekend against lowly La Trobe University and Altona. Captain Paul Hutchison has started to find his shooting touch, and is ready to explode with a 30 plus points game. A win for the Cats will have them closer to locking in a play-off berth. In further good news for Geelong, veteran shooting guard Keith Harrison is close to a return from a dislocated ankle, with coach Greg Smith confident heâll be back after the Queenâs Birthday weekend, if not earlier.
Geelong Cats (7-4)
Big V Youth League Two
vs. Altona (7-3) @ Altona Sports Centre, Sunday 1.00pm
The Youth League squad is in a mini-slump after consecutive losses, and things donât get any easier with a trip up the Princes Freeway to Altona on Sunday. A loss could see the Cats drop from 3rd to 6th on the ladder. However a win will see them replace the Gators in second and make them the second team to sew up a play-off berth behind Hawthorn.
Simon Evans and Nathan Moore are both expected to miss again through injury, however youngster Emerson Varley could return from a hip flexor problem. Veteran big Shane Hunter returned last week after almost a month off, scoring 12 points in his 12 months off. His contribution off the bench will be crucial to the outcome.
