Ballarat Tournament team reports

U12 Boys (2)

Ballarat Junior Tournament

6-8 June 2009

U12 girls (1)

We were very happy with performance considering two of our senior girls did not play due to factures.

Cats 22 defeated Altona 13 (Beat team that knocked us out of VC)

Cats 20 lost to Sunbury 25 (Beaten by poor first half and outscored VC team in second half and should have won)

Cats 42 beat Frankston (2) 12 (Good work by the bottom age girls)

Cats 25 lost to Werribee 26 (Another heart breaker which would have got Cats through to GF. All over the Werribee VC team, just missed our shots)

U16 girls (1)

The Geelong under-16 girls’ team has gone undefeated to win the annual McDonald’s Ballarat Tournament.

In an excellent team effort, Geelong posted wins over Sunbury, Horsham and Altona in the preliminary round before topping Ballarat (2) in the quarter-final and Altona in the semi-final.

That set up a grand final against Sunbury at the Minerdome on Monday with Geelong posting a quality 41-33 win to claim the tournament title.

Captain Emily Koroneos set the tone on offence with her perimeter shooting, while point guard Demi Grant was excellent at both ends of the floor with her playmaking and defensive pressure.

With Chloe Palmer adding to the perimeter firepower, Geelong also had a strong inside presence with Katherine Humble and Zoe Donne, who came off the bench to make an impact and win the grand final MVP.

But the key to the successful weekend was Geelong’s ability to play defence and play as a team with all 10 players making contributions.

U12 Boys (2)

The boys also played in the Ballarat tournament on the weekend and were runners up in the Under 12 B2 division. They lost to Eltham 3 by 6 points in the Grand Final.

Considering we lost to them in a grading game 6 months earlier by 50 points it demonstrated how far the boys have improved so far this year. Thanks to all the parents, sisters, brothers and nannas for all their support in Ballarat!
