BG Championship Wrap (Round 16)

Sharks Grey fell just short of keeping their slim Basketball Geelong division one finals hopes alive, going down to Try Boys Bears 56-50 on Tuesday night.

Inspired by 21 points from back-up Supercats’ guard Dane Bow, the Sharks couldn’t take the lead off the Bears, who were best served by veteran big man Marty De Lange’s 19 points.

YMCA kept alive its top two hopes with an 82-32 smashing of Lara, with big men Pete Van Den Burg (26 points) and Lucas Kenny (25) combining to destroy the Giants.

Pivot City overcame a feisty first quarter from Dolphins, before streeting to a 92-45 victory, with five players scoring in double figures.

Youth League star Rob Harding dropped 28 points to help Try Boys to a 104-49 thrashing of Sharks Black.

The Liebich brothers, Romas (33 points) and Marty (21), joined with Michael Rebula (28) to help hammer Tigers 110-64.

In the women’s competition, former US College star Kylie Morrissy made a rare appearance for Rovers, scoring 21 points in the 69-42 win over Pivot City.

The Pivotonians led the ladder leaders 9-4 at the first break, but a nine point second quarter from Morrissy ensured Rovers would take the lead and not relinquish it.

YMCA kept alive its hopes of snatching second spot from Try Boys with a 51-36 win over Rovers Hawks, as Madi Koehler enjoyed a 21 point game.

The Bears, meanwhile, only need three players on the scoresheet- Anisa Sijersic (23 points), Sarah De Grandi (17) and Ash Salter (14) in a 54-38 win that killed off Sharks’ finals hopes.
