BG Championship Wrap (Round 19)

Seb Loader

Wild weather forced the cancellation of Tuesday night’s Basketball Geelong division one men’s and women’s clashes, leaving the final positions unchanged heading into next week’s finals.

Christian College has claimed the men’s minor premiership, finishing two points clear of Pivot City.

It sets up a mouth-watering grand final qualifier between the Eagles and the Pivotonians, especially the battle in the paint between veteran Seb Loader and Supercat Dan George.

Geelong teammates Nick Owusu (Christian College) and Jason Reardon (Pivot) will also go a long way to influencing the result of the clash.

In the elimination semi, third-placed YMCA meets fourth-placed Try Boys Bears.

The two sides met just once during the regular season, with the Bears winning 73-56 back in round 10.

In the women’s competition, Try Boys finished with the minor premiership, just six percent clear of Rovers, who held ladder leadership for a majority of the season.

The availability of current Dandenong WNBL squad member Prue Kenny for Rovers will bey a key to the result.

Ash Salter’s return in the second half of the season has been the key to Try Boys climb to top spot, and along with Anisa Sijersic will shoulder much of the load in the absence of the Brockett twins, Katherine and Chantelle, who have headed to the US for the upcoming college season.

In the women’s elimination final, Pivot City takes on YMCA.

The Pivotonians have the head-to-head advantage over Y, winning two of three contests between the two sides during the regular season.
