BG Championship Wrap (Finals Week 1)
Minor premier Christian College has booked the first berth in the Basketball Geelong division one grand final with a nail-biting 96-93 second semi-final win over Pivot City.
Supercats guard Nick Owusu was the star for the Eagles with 37 points, while veteran big men Seb Loader (13 points) and Leon O’Neill (11) provided the support.
Geelong trio Jamie Medved (31 points), Jason Reardon (23) and Daniel George (21) did everything they could to get Pivot over the line.
They’ll now meet YMCA in the preliminary final following Y’s 84-63 win over Try Boys Bears in the first-semi.
Former Big V Cat Ben Suchanek top-scored for the winners with 21, while former Supercats’ skipper Jordan Hill finished with 19.
Paul Hutchison was the Bears’ best with 25, while veteran big man Glenn Sharp had 14.
An even team performance helped Try Boys book a grand final berth in the women’s competition, beating Rovers 49-45 in the second-semi.
Four players scored in double figures, including former Lady Cats’ skipper Ashlea Salter (13 points)
Rovers, who were missing WNBL player Prue Kenny, were led by Lana Ryder’s 21 points.
They’ll now meet YMCA, which kept its hopes of three straight winter titles alive with a 53-42 victory over Pivot City.
Madi Koehler starred for Y with 27 points, while Lady Cats’ co-captain Vicki Mallon provided support with 11.
Jamie Rodden capped off a consistent season for Pivot with 11 points.
