Event Details

The format for the tournament will be round robin played in pools (depending on the number of teams), followed by seeded pool play, `cross-overs' and final play offs.

Final pool placing's of teams shall be made premierships points according to their win-loss records (three points for each game won, two points for a tie, one point for each game lost and zero points for a game lost by a forfeit).

There will be a Pre Competition Managers meeting on Saturday 9th May at Darwin Basketball Stadium from 2pm. Managers are asked to bring team lists with players numbers and playing strips (including an alternate strip).

Event Location

The event will be played at the Darwin Basketball Stadium, Abala Road Marrara, in the Marrara Sporting Complex.

Event Rules

The basketball competition will be conducted under Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA) conditions and Guidelines.

The following rules will also apply to the competition:

1. Timing rules are as follows:

  • Warm-up - 15 minutes (may vary)
  • Playing time - 4 x 10 minutes
  • 1/4 and 3/4 time break - 2 minutes
  • 1/2 time break - 10 minutes
  • Extra period - 5 minutes
  • Extra period break - 2 minutes

2. Each team will need two (2) sets of uniforms, one light and one dark. Teams will require an extra uniform in case of the `blood rule'.

3. Each team can have a maximum of twelve (12) players, one head coach, one assistant coach and one team manager.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are we able to use the basketball facilities for training?

Each team will be allocated a training session on the day prior to the compeitiion beginning.

Will we need to bring our own balls?

Size 7 balls will be supplied for the men's competition and Size 6 for the women's competition, however if a team wants to train prior to the competition and for warm up purposes they will need to supply their own balls.

Will there be sports trainers available for strapping?

Sports trainers will be located in the Marrara hub and will be available for all sports injuries. Please note that pre-game taping can be provided by the sports trainers however you will need to provide your own strapping tape.

How much will transport cost?

The Arafura Games Organisers will provide bus transfers for all teams on arrival and departure in Darwin. An official Games shuttle bus service will operate free of charge between accommodation houses and training and competition venues for all accredited participants.

What about accommodation for my team and officials?

Darwin has a variety of accommodation to suit all budgets, tastes and special requirements. Almost all of Darwin's accommodation houses are located close to the Central Business District (CBD) and a short drive from sporting venues.
