Today Wellington Rugby League proudly handed over a big cheque to the Child Cancer Foundation which was the culmination of the Charity Shield Fundraiser event from the 26th April. I would like to thank all the sponsors and clubs and rugby league community for the part you all played in helping us raise over $8000 for this great Charity.

Westpac Stadium-Warriors v Bulldogs

What a night it was!
Please pass on my sincere thanks to all your club helpers, parents and kids that played a part in the Mini games at Westpac on Saturday night.
I don’t think there has been so much colour and excitement there ever before.
Everyone was well organised and the kids were just fantastic.
Thanks again.

Vodafone Warriors present WRL with $10,000 Cheque

On Wednesday morning Chairman Tim Gibson & General Manager Jason Hemson were presented with a $10,000 cheque for Wellington Rugby League from the Vodafone Warriors. They were in attendance at the official launch of the Capital Clash at Westpac Stadium along with a number of dignitaries and official guests including ex Kiwis Warren Collicoat,Peter Mellars, David Lomax and Sir Peter Leitch.
As a sign that the Warriors are committed to make this match more than just a one off in Wellington the big guns were rolled out into Wellington with Simon Mannering, Ben Matulino and Alehana Mara all appearing in the Wellington strip that the team will play in. It wasn’t just the players however that added weight to this commitment with Coach Mat Elliott, CEO Wayne Scurrah and others from the off field team including Don Mann,Richard Becht and David Camps all in attendance. Equally the top shelf from the stadium were all present too including Chairman John Shewan, CEO David Gray, Trustee John Morrison and Stadium Manager Stephen Thompson.
The presentation of jerseys were well received with Mayor Wade-Brown donning hers immediately and Ken Laban promising to wear his at his next rugby commentary.
The highlight however and biggest gesture to date that the Warriors value grass roots rugby league and indeed the contribution that Wellington has made and continues to make was the gift of $10,000 which will be used in developing junior rugby league.
WRL sends a huge thank you to Wayne and the Vodafone Warriors, it will make a huge impact.
Now we have to ensure we get that stadium filled so we can get them back again.
