Go for 2&5 Perth Lynx Coach Resigns

Go for 2&5 Perth Lynx coach Joe McKay has today resigned from the Head Coach position, effective immediately.

McKay was in his third year as Head Coach. His distinctive game style has seen the team play an exciting brand of basketball that is always fast and entertaining. McKay was instrumental in implementing a holistic training program that has seen the Go for 2&5 Perth Lynx players receive best practice sports science programs.

Basketball WA CEO Rick Smith said

“At the time of being appointed for his third year, the Lynx Board made it clear to Joe that the Head Coach position would be advertised for the 2010/11 season. Yesterday, discussions were held with Joe as to appropriate timing of the advertising. Nothing was decided and Joe was to contact me with his view. It came as a complete shock therefore that Joe decided to resign without further discussions and mid season, given the support he had from both the Lynx and Basketball WA”.

“The Go for 2&5 Perth Lynx and Basketball WA are extremely grateful to Joe for the tremendous job he has done with the team during his time as Head Coach. The program has progressed in leaps and bounds due to Joe’s tireless dedication and commitment. We sincerely thank Joe for everything he has done and the many sacrifices he has made for the benefit of basketball in Western Australia.”

“It is now important that the players and coaching staff get the support they need for the remainder of the season as we look to build on the great work that has been done to date. We are now working hard to ensure the program continues with as little disruption as possible.”

Assistant Coach, Vlad Alava has been appointed to the Head Coach position for the remainder of the 2009/2010 season. An extensive search for a Head Coach for the 2010/2011 season will begin in December.
