WA Under 20 teams off to good start
The Under 20 Australian Junior Championships kicked off over the weekend with the WA Men & Women both playing their first game's on Sunday.
The WA Women were first off with a game against Queensland which they led for majority of the game. Queensland came home strong to take a three point lead with just over three minutes remaining. Enter Shani Amos who hit 11 of her team high 17 points in the last few minutes of the game to lead WA to a 80-77 win.
The Men were not as lucky on Day One, going down to the host nation in the feature game of the night. The WA team led at every break in what was a close contest. However a 28-19 last quarter from the home side was enough to get them home for a 74-70 win. Nathan Spehr did the damage late with two three pointers and sealed the win with two free-throws with 39 seconds remaining.
The Men backed up their close loss with a 70-59 win against New Zealand this morning. Led by Igor Nujic, Jackson Hussey & Josh Johnson who all combined for 47 points the team led from start to finish.
The WA Women tackle the powerful Victorian outfit tonight at 5:30pm WST while the Men face Victoria in their last pool game tomorrow 2:30pm WST.
