WA continue run at Under 20 AJC
The Under 20 Women have continued their impressive showing at the Australian Junior Championships (AJC) in Gawler, South Australia.
The Women narrowly lost to powerhouse Victoria 67-74 on Monday while convincingly beating New Zealand last night 71-53.
Jasmine Hooper performed well for the WA side with 15 points and 5 rebounds against Victoria. She backed that effort up with 11 points and 6 rebounds against New Zealand. Shani Amos & Ebony Antonio also continue their impressive showings.
Against Victoria the Women had a poor second quarter getting outscored 27-18. However they fought back hard with a 17-8 third period but could not get over the line. Ultimately they gave away too many fouls, letting Victoria get 33 free throws for the game, Victoria took advantage making 25/33 attempts.
The Men backed up their win over New Zealand with an 18 point loss to the Victorians 56-74. Victoria shot an impressive 45% for the game and had 17 second chance points after taking control of the rebound count 51-36. The Vics got out to an early lead and were up 23-8 at quarter time. The WA team could not claw the deficit back leaving them with a 1-2 record after normal round play.
The Men face off against Queensland to win a place in one of the two Semi-Final showdowns at 10:30am this morning (WST).
