WA Coaches and Players in National Development

Western Australian coaches and players are involved in high end development this week with a busy week in Basketball Australia's calendar.

Covering both sides of the country, High Performance Manager and Perth Lynx Head Coach David Herbert will be joined by State Coaches Glenn Clarke and Mike Ellis at the Annual Australian Junior Development Camp held at the AIS in Canberra.

Herbert will head the girls side of the program along with Clarke, who is one of four assisting coaches. Under 18 Boys Metropolitan Head Coach Mike Ellis will be aligned with the mens program working with former NBL Head Coach Mark Watkins amongst others.

Here in Perth, former Perth Lynx caretaker coach and NITP network coach Vlad Alava will work with the Australian Boomers coaching staff (Brett Brown and Assistants Shane Heal and Andrej Lemanis) in a development capacity for the duration of their week-long camp. After six years of involvement in the WNBL, participating in coaches meetings and video sessions with the National mens program will no doubt offer Alava some new thoughts and ideas.

WA-based players are also a presence on court with Darcee Garbin, Amy Kidner, Tevin Jackson and Nathan Smith all involved in the Australian Junior Camp at the AIS, while Perth Wildcats' players Damien Martin, Jesse Wagstaff, Steve Weigh, Cairn's new signing Alex Loughton and new Melbourne Tigers signing, Perth-born Luke Neville, all in the Boomers squad to face Argentina.

Basketball WA congratulates all involved.
