Totally intimidated by the opposition defence. Girls didn’t execute plays properly hence score line. When we did unfortunately did not finish the good work. This is one of the better teams in the competition and we were not playing at the same level. If we do the basics TOGETHER at least we will then have some impact on games.

Willeton scored 4 quick baskets which put the girls on their back foot early but our girls grouped together to stay within reach at the first quarter. In the second quarter the Flames defense line was hard to break and through some nice teamwork plays were able to get the ball through the ring to still keep in touch with the score line.
In the second half, the Flames game faded with Willeton turning on the heat. Emma Swansons workload was huge and did not give up for one moment either scoring, defending or setting up a basket, also Jade Tocknell played a gutsy 2nd and last quarter being consistent with her workload, not afraid to defend the more experienced and taller opposition player.

Close start of the first quarter down 2 points. Then the game slipped away in 2nd and 3rd quarter needing more rebounds. Defence picked up out scoring Willetton in final quarter but not enough for a win. Thank you both Ebony and Cady from U14 girls for helping out.

This week we faced off against the undefeated Tigers who had a clear size advantage with Simone Gaisford still out of the line up but to all eight girls credit we did an excellent job of mixing up our looks on the defensive end and were physical on the boards to not let that be a factor. At half time we trailed by six points and following a see sawing contest we just couldnt reel in the visitors eventually going down by five but the encouraging sign was that we got fantastic contributions across the board.

The boys started positively and stayed with Willetton going into the first half. Willetton started the third quarter strong and pressured the ball allowing them to score quick points. The boys allowed Willetton too many chances with offensive rebounds, especially the small guys from which they were able to score and push out to a convincing lead winning the game.

After a strong performance last week the boys were eager to continue their strong for into this week game against a much improved Willetton side. The team got off to a great start but lack of concentration, poor ball skills and lack of mind set allowed our lead to diminish very quickly. Kyle dominated the game; our big is proving vital to this team’s success. Brad Walsh ran especially hard and is providing consistent efforts on court each week. With seconds to go and one point down Luke was fouled going to the basket and hit the one of his free throws to take the game into over time… From there the boys never really looked like losing control. A hard fought win and many lessons learnt. Never the less the team sits with 4 win and 0 losses for the season.

Following from our big win on the road last week, our preparation was all about consolidating the work that we did seven days earlier and backing up with a strong performance. Unfortunately this just didnt happen with countless defensive breakdowns and lack of execution at the offensive end which always gave the Tigers a chance at staying in the game. Luckily the visitors couldnt make the final shot of the game and we came away with a two point victory to remain undefeated. A tough week awaits us at practise!

The Tigers were in a dangerous mindset as they came to Rockingham yet to notch a win on the board. They had a tough start to the season having to face all the top undefeated teams in the opening weeks and losing only by small margins. In the opening quarter the scores were level at 21-21 in what was a great shooting display by both teams. The second is when the Flames broke the game out into double digit lead 42-30 at the half. Captain Ryan Jeffrey led the way once again with 19 points at the main break. The high percentage shooting continued at the start of the 2nd half with the lead breaking out to 20 points at one stage.Tyrone Thwaites hit 12 of his 23 points in the 3rd term, however it wasn't enough to stop the Tigers making a late charge as they brought the lead back to 10 heading into the 4th. The Tigers hungry for the first win of the season brought the score down to as little as 7 but Chudier Pal showed great dominance on the defensive end blocking numerous shot attempts and pulling down 10+ boards for the game. This was enough for the boys to hold onto the lead and take the game 83-73 and remain on top with a 4-0 record. A special mention must be made to Richard Mehan who as the sole point guard on the team showed great leadership in controlling the offence and show little fatigue running close to a full 40 minute game.
