The score line is no reflection on how the girls shaped up to this match. Within 50 seconds of jump ball the Flames were 4 points up displaying intensity and determination. Their defense was hard to penetrate along with some well constructed plays at the other end to find the basket. By the fourth quarter the Flames began to fade and with one of our key players using up all of her fouls, saw the Suns build a healthy lead.

The girls came out with full court extended pressure and did a good job rotating and hustling to get some easy scores which kept the scoreboard ticking over. At the other end the Suns made a focus of getting the ball inside to their bigs which we were slow on doubling down to in the first half and was a big reason we trailed.
In the second half we adjusted in the half court defensively but some quick shots turned into transition scores for the home side and we found ourselves down by 12 points at the last change. With 10 minutes to go we put everything on the line and some spirited play saw the girls steam back into contention before the Suns hit a shot with under 20 seconds remaining and we couldnt get one of our own to force overtime.

The key factor behind the comeback was we were able to get contributions across the board but it will be nice to get the monkey off our back and claim a big scalp as it has to be our turn to be on the other side of the scoreboard soon.

Its tough when you look at the ladder knowing we have lost four of our games by just 1,2,5 and 5 points to date which while its a steep learning curve for the girls shows our senior womens program is in good shape for the future.

After a win against the Slammers last week we were looking at continuing with the form and putting in back to back wins. The boys started strong and with great defensive pressure and team play saw them scoring on fast breaks. The boys were up by 17 pts at the first half and holding their opposition to just 13 pts. The boys did well in refocusing as we lost our way a bit with fouls and poor passing but stepped up and focused on the team plan. With a great team effort from all the boys we continued with the pressure and went on to win the game by 25 pts. Well done boys.

Poor Decisions and bad shooting percentage let us down this week. The boys need to work very hard on finishing off lay ups created by good defensive opportunities. Our intensity and lack of communication hurt us in the second half, something the team must pick up for this weeks hard game against an undefeated Wanneroo team. All team members saw good court time.

Words of Wisdom from A Coach: Keep your heads up, work hard as a team and believe in yourselves. Remember too we are sitting 7 and 0.

A good game for the boys through some very trying circumstances. It was one of those days where the hoop gods weren’t happy with us. We missed a lot of shots we would normally make and that left the door open for them on a few occasions. Rebounding continues to be an achilles for us and we will continue to work hard on it in the coming weeks. Our team work was a highlight today and the boys are back to playing for each other rather than playing as individuals. A lot of guys are doing the little things that don’t appear on the stats sheet but helps the team as a whole achieve our goals for the season.

The boys recharged their batteries last week with a varied training plan and the focus going into the game was to execute at the offensive end but more importantly achieve our goal on the D (44 points max). We started off strongly holding the Suns to six whilst pouring on 25 of our own with extended pressure a key factor in getting the gap. In the second quarter we made good choices in the open court and shot the ball with confidence but there were still some defensive assignments that werent capitalised on from the home side which let us off the hook.
Keeping the Suns to 15 for the first half was good to see but our third quarter was a let down conseeding 19pts and struggling to find avenues to the basket in the half court. We ran out convincing winners putting in a workman like performance without blowing the Suns off the floor but knowing the challenge ahead we were happy to be back on the winners list and immediately shifted the focus onto preparing for the Wolf Pack.

The big test comes in the next fortnight with Wanneroo and Cockburn which in many ways can set up our season going into the mid season break.
