Let’s give credit to a very good team who have the right work ethic. This was a good learning curve for us which the girls got some things from. While the scoreboard showed a big gap our defence has come along and can now be taken to the next level.

Although the Wolves are undefeated in this comp, the girls went in focused on what they had to do, and in the first quarter put in a great effort to trail by only 3 points at the first break.

The second quarter our defense line was hard to penetrate close to the basket so the Wolves stepped back and started popping in 3 pointers from all over the shop. We were getting to the other end with plenty of opportunities with the ball bouncing back out of the ring more times than going through.

The last quarter the ring opened up and we scored 19 of our 40 points. Overall the girls played well but really need to use, what they are taught at training more often into the game

Under 13 Boys - Head Coach: Ryan Jeffrey & Assistant Coach: Kathy Zeverona

The boys went into the game wanting to win and knew they had to play strongly as we were seriously out sized by height. The game was close and a great struggle by both sides to stamp their authority, with the Flames up by 1 pt at half time. The boys continued with their intensity and by the 4th quarter had kicked into gear holding the Wolves and winning by 12 points. It was a great team effort by all the boys not only on offense but a great show defensively against the big guys. Well Done.

Jordan DuPreez 7pts

A very tough day at the office today as we came up against a very good Wolves team that is very well drilled and coached. It was very good to note that we improved as the game went on and we kept going until the final buzzer. We just need to work on our consistency and keep playing as a team.

The boys went into the game against the tough Wolves outfit very foccussed and each week the groups closeness is more apparent which is bringing trust and understanding of where we are going and how we are going to get there.

We came out strongly and got off to a good start on the back of some great defensive possessions with rotations and help a key to building the lead. As the game continued our offensive flow and ability to execute our sets got people open looks which was great against a quality opposition. The one constant in this game was our defensive pressure and effort on every possesion which led to transition scores and anytime you can get some cheapies your confidence as a team rises and becomes infectious.

I'm not one for individual praise in a team sport but a special mention must go to Mitchell Jobse and Dylan Jeffrey who have taken their personal games to another level and this week executed everything we worked on to reduce the Wolves big men having an influence on the result.

Now for the undefeated Cougars next week, a chance to announce ourselves as a legitimate contender.

Under 23 Men - Head Coach: Adam Forde

Round 8 V Wanneroo Wolves
Final Score - 37-49 (L)

Leading Scorers -
Chudier Pal 16pts
Eric Denholm 8pts
Tyrone Thwaites 8pts

Game Comment -
Another week in which the Flames were short their leading scorer and captain Ryan Jeffrey (26ppg) hurt us as the boys lose their third straight game. While the team was boosted with the return of Chuider Pal and Tyrone Thwaites who also missed the last weeks Kalamunda game due to SBL commitments, the team was also without centre/forward Chris Burton (15pts vs. Suns).

Chudier Pal had what only can be described as his game of the season so far, before he fouled out with six mins left in the game. At that time the score was 34-37, but points were hard to come by in the final term as the boys went down by 12. The only bonus from the game was the defensive effort and hussle shown by the boys which held a high scoring Wanneroo team to only 49 points (including 5 points in the 3rd term).

Next week we face the undefeated Cockburn Cougars at home, but with a full squad for the first time in several weeks we are looking to get back into winning form.
