Entry into the Tournament
Everybody must pay $5 on entry. If you are an official working over the weekend, the Tournament committee will reimburse you later. All patrons MUST observe the Basketball Victoria Terms and Conditions of entry.

Q. Players have pulled out of the Tournament since we sent in the Team Entry Form. Can we put in new players on the list or this illegal?

A. It is NOT illegal. Coaches or team officials for each team are expected to hand in a revised Team Entry form on Saturday before the first game with all the updates and changes included. The Team Entry form handed in shall be the final list of players playing during the Tournament. There is no penalty for changing the Team List before the Tournament starts. NOTE: Once you have handed in the Team Entry form on the tournament weekend, if there are any changes to the playing list the Tournament Committee MUST be advised of any new players included into the team. Team Entry Forms can be downloaded from the website.

Q. Do Coaches & Team Managers pay to get into the Tournament ?
Everybody has to pay $5 each day at the door to enter.

A. The Tournament Committee, as in the past, is trying to raise enough funds to cover the cost of court hire, referees, and administration for the weekend.

Q. Can we watch the Championship Big V Games for free?

A.  YES
Big V management has agreed to allow Tournament patrons who are participating and have already paid an entry fee, to watch the Big V Championship games. Please enjoy.

Q. Why do some teams play 4 games and other teams play 5 in the one grade

A. Grades of six or more teams are divided into two or more sub grades. If there is a grade of 3, 5, 7, or an odd number of teams, one of the sub groups will have one more team in its sub group than the other. To determine what team plays off in the finals, teams in each sub group must then play each other to be ranked. Ranking of teams occurs on the Saturday and Sunday of the Tournament.

Monday's games are when we play finals or have "play offs " between the different sub groups to determine rankings between the different sub groups. This normally involves the first ranked team of sub group A playing the second ranked team in sub group B and first ranked of sub group B playing off the second ranked team in group A. Winners then could play off for a Grand Final or in some instances where the grades are very large, play in a Preliminary Final before moving on to play in the Grand Final.

Q. How do the finals work across the tournament?

A. In the Big V Tournament there is no fixed finals system like the traditional four team page system or what the East Qualifying uses for five team finals or the best of three games systems. We have based the finals play offs around ensuring that all teams do get a minimum of four games and a maximum of six games during the tournament. Sometimes some grades can be very large or very small. There is no certainty in how many teams will enter. Therefore there can be no definite finals system.

The system is, if your team wins, it moves one game closer to the Grand Final. In some grades losing a game will cut your team out of the Grand final, in other grades there can be a second chance game where winning through to the Grand final can still be achieved.

Tournaments are about having a good time and enjoying the competition played. We hope that everybody goes home a winner and they will get something positive from the Tournament.

Q. We only have two games, aren't we supposed to get four as a minimum

A. Yes this is correct. Teams do get a minimum of four games; some of those games missing from the fixture could be played in the finals series on Monday. The Finals series games cannot be listed until we know what team is ranked in what position. Once that is established the finals games with team names will be published, and the number of games will increase to four or more.

Team Grading forms and Team Entry forms to be submitted Saturday

In the entering of teams' process, some players will decide not to play for the team. At this point team managers have to do a run around to find other players to make up numbers in that team. This sometimes can lead to problems with players who were originally on the Team Entry Forms pulling out and new players who are not on the Team Entry Form not qualifying for the grade they are intending to play in.

To ensure that teams are still qualified to play in certain grades, the Tournament committee requires that the team official or coach, before the first game submits the Team Entry Form. In some cases the manager has already sent off the Team Entry Form. This was not needed at the time of Entry into the Tournament but is now required just before playing on the weekend.

If this inconveniences the Team Manager we apologise, but we do have to ensure that players who are not qualified to play in the lower grades are excluded from playing. This is the most effective way of ensuring that this rule is enforced.

Only team officials or coaches are to hand in a Team Entry Form that is complete. The coach also has to sign a form certifying that the players are on the list and no other players can play on the weekend unless the information has been approved by the Tournament committee.

Late Payments and Entry Forms

Payments by cash or cheque, not credit card, can be made on Saturday. Your team MUST have been registered to play by the closing date - no late entries accepted on the day.

The Tournament committee expects that all monies owing will be paid before the first game is played. Teams will be excluded from games if payment of the team registration fees are not made.

Fees and Team Entry Forms can be made before your first game at the front desk (not with the door keepers). Look for the Teams' registration desk. Please ensure that you arrive in plenty of time to fill in any forms or make payments before the start of your game.
