Women In Sports Program

The aim of the Women in Sport Program is “To increase female participation and involvement in sport and other recreation activities in the community and use sport to promote Gender Equality in PNG.”

Sport provides fantastic opportunities to empower girls and women. The Women in Sport Program teaches basic sports coaching, officiating, and sports administration skills to women, and the approach is focused on empowering girls and women in the community by giving them the skills and confidence not only to participate in playing sport, but also to plan and organise good quality fun sports activities in their community. The program also uses the sports situation for peer group discussions with men and women about women’s health, gender equality, gender-based violence, HIV, as well as healthy lifestyles, nutrition and life skills.

Participants are inspired by our female sports champion role models and through sport can gain confidence, respect, and a supportive network to contribute more fully to community development.

The program is delivered to girls and women in grass-roots communities around PNG, by PNGSF Regional Sports Development Officers working closely with Provincial and District Administration
