Competitions

MRF run two competitions each year which coincide with the school terms

  • Summer - During terms 4 & 1 (Oct to Mar)
  • Winter    - During terms 2 & 3 (Apr to Sept)

Matches are not played during the school holidays or on public holidays. Matches are generally held between the hours of 5pm and 8pm.

Age groups that are available (subject to registrations received)

Age Group Day Venue Match Duration
9 & under  Friday  Macedon  15 minute halves
11 & under  Thursday  Macedon  15 minute halves
13 & under  Tuesday  Macedon  18 minute halves
15 & under  Monday  Macedon  20 minute halves
17 & under  Friday  Woodend  20 minute halves
Youth (up to 25)  Friday  Woodend  20 minute halves
Open (up to 35)  Friday  Woodend  20 minute halves

Matches are played in two halves with a two minute break. Matches are played according to the Rules of FFV. The FFV Codes of Behaviour applies to all players, team managers, coaches and spectators.

Age groups are determined by the year in which the player is born rather than the age at the time of registering.

For example, for competitions starting in 2014, a player born in 2000 would be seen as being 14 years of age even if the player is still 13 years old. They would then be allocated to the 15 and under competition.

Points and Ladders

The '9 and under' play throughout the season without any finals at the end of the season. No points are allocated to the winning team each week. At the end of the season each player receives a Participation Award. All players are asked to return their tops at the end of that game.

From the '11 and under' through to 'Open', points are allocated as follows:

WIN = 3 points, DRAW = 1 point, LOSS = 0 points, BYE = 0 points

The top four teams on the ladder at the end of the season play in the finals. The Grand Final night is played on one night as a celebration of the season in which awards are presented to all players in the '11 and under' groups, while Best & Fairest is presented to individuals in the other age groups. This award is voted by the referees after each match. All players from both teams in each Grand Final match receive trophies including a 'Best Player' trophy for each Grand Final match. Recognition is also given to our referees.
