Overview

The Northern Suburbs Basketball Association (Norths) Referees Program is one of the most progressive and innovative in Australian basketball, with our referees officiating in more than 10,500 games in the local competition each year. Norths has a strong commitment to the provision of quality referees for all games played here and invests significantly in the ongoing education and development of the 190 officials we have actively involved in the association.

As well as the 10,500 domestic competition games, our officials also service our representative program which includes our 27 junior rep teams, as well as represent our 4 senior representative teams conducted by Basketball NSW. We have 28 officials on the BNSW Waratah Junior League panel, along with 11 officials who referee in the BNSW Waratah Senior League.

As well as the referees, Norths has a strong commitment to supporting and developing our score-bench officials and statisticians and the association is one of the leaders in NSW in these important areas of the sport. Norths officials are actively involved in BNSW representative leagues, as well as the elite WNBL and NBL copetitions. We have ongoing training provided to ensure there is a pathway for all our technical officials. Norths operates full “LiveStats” on our Premier Men’s and Women's competitions and this is used as a key training environment for the ongoing development of statisticians within the association.

To ensure we continue to offer quality officiating and technical officials for all games played at the association, Norths provides ongoing training, courses and professional development events throughout the year. These courses include community courses for entry level officials, right through to providing courses for our more experienced and aspiring referees, score-table officials and statisticians.
