At a meeting last night the KDFNL Executive have decided that no points shall be awarded for both the seniors and reserves Longwood v Murchison games scheduled for last Saturday 16 August at Longwood.
"Concerns about the surface at Longwood were brought to the attention of the Executive early last week" noted KDFNL President Greg Watson. "The club undertook remedial work in the lead up to the game in order to have the surface ready for play on Saturday."
"Following the improvement of the playing surface as a result of the work completed during the week the Executive is disappointed that the game did not go ahead."
"This is a unique situation in that both clubs agreed to not play even though the inspections conducted during the week and on Saturday morning considered the surface to be playable."
The other significant item on the agenda was the question mark over Longwood’s hosting of the KDFNL Elimination Final on Sunday 31 August.
"There is no game this weekend at Longwood and with only a light training load in the next two weeks there is an expectation that the ground will continue to improve and the final will go ahead at the venue as scheduled."
"We will work with Council and the Club to get the playing surface to the best standard possible and it will be reassessed this weekend to monitor preparations."
"The Executive fully understands the importance to clubs in hosting finals, both for the club itself but also for the community and township overall."
