Victory Goes a Long Way

On July 29,2014, the 8th Micro Games Basketball tournament had reached its women's championship game between the two outstanding teams of team Guam and the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI).

The day had come to determine which team had experienced pain to gain success.The gym was filled to utmost capacity and the screams and shouts of the crowd could be heard islandwide.

The game started and without hesitation, team Guam, in commanding fashion, took the lead. The quarter ended with the score of 18-9. Back again in the second quarter, team Guam showed more improvement on both the defensive and offensive end. With this upgrade, the quarter ended with the score of 37-14. Guam continued to smash RMI in the third quarter (54-21). The game ended with Guam obliterating RMI and taking the gold (77-31). Alina Bonto (#4) of team Guam led her team with 23 points and a block, and teammate Destiny Castro (#10) also added 16 points for the team and 5 rebounds.

Right after the game we interviewed coach Eddie Pelkey of team Guam. He said that he has so much pride for his team and that they will be back to defend their gold medal in the 2018 Micro Games in Yap.
