League MEN – Warriors v Lightning

Evan Brown (26.5ppg) scored a whopping 41pts to lead Lightning to an upset 90-89 Overtime victory against the playoff bound Warriors. Browne - hitting 41 points for the second time this season - led from the front, hitting critical free throws at the end of regulation and overtime to get the Lightning over the line for their sixth win of the season. In a highly charged and physical game both teams spent a lot of time at the charity stripe with Lightning winning the basket count 28-16, 18 of those points coming from Browne who hit 18 of 19 chances. Lightning hit 80% of their shots from the line while the Warriors hit only 43%. Warriors looked set to grind out the win after taking a 40-28 half time lead behind the shooting of Brice Giles (27 @ 21.8ppg) and Otis Thompson (20 @ 12.6ppg) whereas Lightning were struggling to stay with them. After the break Marcus Robinson (12 @ 14.1ppg) joined in with Browne and Cameron Bailey (15 @ 10.2ppg) as Lightning staged a comeback that forced the overtime. Thanks to free throws from Tony Halikos, Mark Lloyd and two from Browne at the end of regulation Lightning gave themselves a chance for an upset. The teams traded baskets throughout the overtime, but it was in the last 11 seconds that Browne settled matters hitting a field goal and knocking down two free throws to seal the game. Player coach John Culbertson (6.67ppg) added 19 for the Warriors.

League MEN – Uni Rebels v Eagles

Uni Rebels won their second consecutive game against the Eagles 76-66 to win the minor round series 2-1. Four players in double figures did the trick for the Rebels with Marcus Ch’ng (22 @ 16.2ppg) and Jarrod Sheppard (18 @ 112.3ppg) leading the way. Trailing by one after a quarter of play 18-17 the Rebels put on 24-14 in the second quarter with Ethan Kennedy (14 @ 28.8ppg) chipping in offensively to help the Rebels to a 41-32 half time lead. Sheppard hit 10 in the third quarter as the Eagles got behind Bobby Guyton (31 @ 22.9ppg) to try to narrow the gap, but they fell further behind as the Rebels went on a 23-16 run and pretty much put the game out of reach for the Eagles. Eagle Matthew Smith (23ppg) hit 9 of his 20 in the last quarter as they outpointed the Rebels 18-12 but it was all too late.

League MEN –Razzle v Ansett

Ansett completely outclassed the Razzle 116-54 relegating the green and gold to a season without a win. Ansett hit the afterburners in the first quarter for a 35-16 lead and a sign of endgame for Razzle. Matty Hunt (35 @ 12.8ppg) and Colin Matteson (31 @ 27ppg) hit over 30pts each to pave the way for the Blues, outscoring Razzle by 12pts with their combined effort! David Carroll (14 @ 11.4ppg) and Charlie Reaper (13 @ 8.2ppg) put in another stellar effort for Razzle as they lent support to Brad Lee who had his best game of the competition with 18pts. The win by Ansett keeps them locked in a tie with the Uni Rebels for first place. With just one round remaining before playoffs their game against Warriors is looming as their biggest challenge of the season. For the record Tommy Hunt, Cameron McKenzie and Tommy Blake added 19, 11 and 10 to the cause for the Blues.

Ladder: Ansett & Uni Rebels 15-2, Eagles 11-6, Warriors 8-9, Lightning 6-11, Tracy Village Jets 5-12 and Razzle 0-18.

Next week: 6:15pm – Uni Rebels v Tracy Village Jets, 7:45pm – Warriors v Ansett, 9:15pm Lightning v Eagles. Razzle have the bye
