Mixed Social and Senior 3-on-3 Competition

New competitions for 2012 include Mixed Social and 3-on-3 Competition. Rules for both competitions can be found below.

 

Depending on nominations, games may be played across two evenings. Mixed Social will be played on Monday (and Wednesday) evenings while the 3-on-3 competition will be played on (Wednesday) and Friday evenings.

 

If you are interested in entering a team into either competition please fill out a registration form and lodge it with the office asap. Teams do not have to be Club based (and clearances are only required if you stop playing Club basketball).

 

Mixed Social Competition

Specific rules applying to the Mixed Social Competition;

a)    Each team will have no more than three players of the same gender on the court at any one time;

b)    Male players may only score from shots taken outside the key area;

c)    All teams are to play a zone defence. No full court presses, double teaming or person on person defence is permitted;

d)    Males are not permitted to block a female shooting. Penalty two (2) free throws to the female shooter;

e)    A player may score no more than ten (10) points until all other players of that team have also scored ten (10) points. Points are ignored if a players scores in contravention of this rule;

f)     If a player on ten (10) points is fouled, a side ball will be awarded. If the foul is awarded in a penalty situation (8th team foul) another player, yet to score ten (10) points shall be nominated to take the shots;

g)    A player who has scored nine (9) points and scores a field goal, one (1) point is awarded. If on a free throw, the second shot is ignored and a side ball is awarded to the shooters team, and;

h)   If the final player scores ten (10) points, and in doing so exceeds the ten (10) point limit, the points will be awarded, and all team members may also score a further ten (10) points.

 

3-on-3 Competition

Games will be played at 6:00pm and 6:30pm with 1 basket only.

a)    Teams have a maximum of 5 players and only 1 Restricted player is permitted per team;

b)    Games must commence with 3 players by can finish with 2 players per team;

c)    The Coach/Team Manager is the sole spokesperson for the team;

d)    The game will be played in 7 minute halves with a 1 minute half-time;

e)    Each team is allowed 1 minute timeout in the first half (clock stops);

f)     No timeouts are allowed in the second half of the game;

g)    In the case of obvious injury, a 1 minute timeout is allowed at the discretion of the Referee;

h)   The ‘take back’ line is the 3-point arc. The ball must be taken past the ‘take back’ line on a change of possession and when a basket is scored. The ball is deemed to have been taken past the ‘take back’ line when the player controlling the ball places both feet over the 3-point arc, into the ‘take back’ zone;

i)     The offensive team must pass the ball from the ‘take back’ zone within 5 seconds;

j)      ‘Checking’ means that the defensive team must hand the ball to the offensive player. This must be done each time a basket is scored. The defensive team cannot hold the ball for any longer than 2 seconds;

k)    Each player is allowed 4 personal fouls only;

l)     Player substitution is permitted during any dead ball situation;

m)  The team listed first in the draw starts with possession in the first half, second team in the second half;

n)   Jump balls will go to the defensive team;

p)    The ball must be passed from the ‘take back’ zone. It cannot be shot or dribbled. Any infraction means loss of possession;

q)    On a steal of defensive rebound the ball must be taken behind the ‘take back’ line. Both feet must be completely behind the line. Defence is permitted and play may restart with a pass, shot or dribble;

r)     Free throws will be awarded as per normal basketball rules. Should the shooting team rebound a missed shot they may shoot immediately. Should the defensive team rebound a missed free throw, they must take the ball behind the ‘take back’ line before attacking the basket;

s)    A technical foul results in 2 free throws and possession;

t)     Dunking is not allowed. Hanging on the rings will result in expulsion, without replacement.

u)   In the case of drawn games, the following shall occur:

a)    Stage 1: Three players from each team will compete in a shootout from the free throw line. One shot each, alternate shots. Fouled out players may not compete. Teams finishing with two players receive 2 shots only;

b)    Stage 2: If stage 1 results in a draw – the first to then miss on equal alternate shots shall lose. In this stage both teams will receive equal alternative shots.

c)    In the event of a draw in a Grand Final, a 3 minute extra time period will be played. Coin toss for possession.

v)    Games will be controlled by one referee only. This referee officiates mostly from the base line;

w)   Referees decisions are final. There is no avenue of appeal.
