Round 10

League Women Thursday – Ansett v Razzle

Ansett closed the door early against the Razzle, limiting them to just 4 first quarter points while potting 14 themselves on their way to a convincing 63-34 win and sole possession of fourth place on the ladder. Clancy Dorman led a quartet of players in double figures with 18, followed by Tamiyah Perkins 13, Remii Watts-Smith 12 and Bella Politis 11. By half time the Blues led 27-13 and a second half run of 36-21 led to their fourth win of the season. Caitlin Wortlehock was the only Razzle player to get into double figures with 10.

Eagles v Tracy Village Jets

The Tracy Village Jets kept the Eagles grounded with a 69-46 win that runs their win streak out to 17 including 5 from last year. Danielle Totham and Sam Rioli got the Bombers rolling in the first quarter with a pair of treys each to help forge a 17-11 lead that blossomed out to 35-24 by the half time break. It was much the same in the second half with the Bombers outscoring the Birds 34-22 for the win. Totham led all players with a game high 21, Tikesa Docherty-Cole had 18 and Sam Rioli 14. Michelle Friel led the Eagles with 14 and Alysha-Marie Williams 10.

Lightning v Uni Rebels

The Uni Rebels charged into second place on the ladder after beating the Lightning 50-34. The Lightning hung tough in the first half only trailing by 4 at half time 24-20, but it was downhill in the second half. The Rebels crept away a bit more in the third quarter during a 11-9 run but really opened up the game in the last quarter by outscoring the Lightning 15-5 to claim victory. Danielle Ponter & veteran Chantelle Lee hit 13 each and Ambah Kowcun had 12. Kelly Doherty had 8 and Sarah Carbone 7 for the Lightning.

League Men Thursday – Tracy Village Jets v Razzle

Travis Ellis pumped in 31 points for the Tracy Village Jets as they notched up their 8th consecutive victory at the expense of the Razzle who went down fighting 85-73. The eight game win streak started with the Razzle back on 5 March in Round 5! The Bombers had to make up a 5 point deficit from a slow start in the first quarter, but they did so with a vengeance outscoring the green and gold in the second quarter 27-14 to take a 39-31 half time lead. Ellis and Jett Sukcharoen led that comeback, combining for 17 of the 27 points. The third quarter was even and then the Bombers shot ahead again with a 23-19 run to seal the win. Razzle’s Rob Oliver hit a season high 27 and William McClay had 11.

Lightning v Uni Rebels

The Uni Rebels put their campaign back on track with a good performance against the Lightning. The Rebels knocked off the Lightning 84-67 to claim outright first place on the ladder. The Rebels had lost their previous three games making the race for the minor premiership a four horse event with eight rounds left to play. Newcomer Tyler Jefferson hit a game high 35 in his second game for the club with Jake Kirby adding 16 and Brad Jachmann 15. Lightning got a team high 31 from Craig Martin and 18 from Shaquille Hohipa-Wilson 18 but that was the bulk of the scoring from the team. The Rebels were well and truly in control by half time with a handy 47-23 lead.

Eagles v Ansett

The Eagles consigned Ansett to the cellar with a dominating 105-34 win that just about puts Ansett completely out of the playoffs for this season. The Eagles showed no pity for the Blues as they flew out to a 55-18 half time lead behind the efforts of Deola Folarin & Reece Turner who combined for 38 of the 55. The same scenario eventuated in the second half as the Birds continued to fill up the hoop, outscoring the Blues 50-16. Folarin led all scorers with a League high 40. Turner ended up with 22 and Chris Hart had 23. The only Blue in double figures was Daniel Murdoch with 12.
