Round 12

League Women – Lightning v Ansett (Thursday)

Kisha Lee and Tamiyah Perkins sparked Ansett over Lightning 69-50 to hold onto second place on the ladder after 12 rounds of play. The Blues have strung together 7 wins out of their last 8 games and look likely to be a serious contender for the end of season Grand Final. The Blues put together a 23-8 run in the first quarter to put the Lightning in a very uncomfortable place and although they did mount a challenge in the second quarter to trail by only 10 at the half the Blues piled on more points in the third quarter to put the game out of reach. Lee finished with 19 (averaging 19.8ppg) and Perkins hit 15 (9.1ppg). For the Lightning Kira Pendlebury (6.7ppg) had 16, Dominique Carbone 11 and Brittany Ward 10 @ 13.2ppg.

Uni Rebels v Tracy Village Jets

The Tracy Village Jets avenged their only loss of the season (to the Uni Rebels) by powering past the Uni Rebels 64-48. The victory also denied the Uni Rebels a double chance of celebrating another win with a milestone 300 games played by Coach/Player Jaylene Boundry. The Jets wasted no time in asserting their dominance by flying off to a 28-19 half time lead and then shut down the inevitable challenges from the Rebels to get back within striking distance. Kylie Duggan sparkled again with 20 points to lead all scorers with help from Tania Dhu with 14. Duggan now averages 12.3ppg…9th in the League. The Boundry sisters once again led the Rebels from the floor with Edith hitting 16 and Jaylene 13. A big congratulations to Jaylene on the milestone.

Razzle v Eagles

A 26-8first quarter score line favouring the Eagles was all it took to lift the Birds over the Razzle 90-49. At half time the Eagles led 49-19 and although the Razzle did put in a spirited challenge in the third quarter when they matched the Eagles 21 each the uphill battle was too much to overcome. Five Eagles hit double figures with Trish Graham (17.5ppg) & Jasmine Stovall (20ppg) netting 21 apiece while Faye Armstrong hit 15, Alexia Hohipa-Wilson 14 and Alysha-Marie Williams 11. Lailani Triffitt (7ppg) led the Razzle with 11 with Caitlin Wortlehock & Erin Boyd on 10 each.

Ladder: Tracy Village Jets 11-1, Ansett 7-5, Eagles 6-6, Uni Rebels 6-5, Lightning 4-7 & Razzle 1-11

Next week Round 13: Thursday – Razzle v Tracy Village Jets 6:30pm. Friday – Eagles v Lightning 6:30pm, Uni Rebels v Ansett 8:00pm

Men Round 13

League Men – Palmerston Power v Tracy Village Jets (Thursday)

The Jets from Tracy Village handed the Palmerston Power their second loss in a row with a convincing 71-56 victory. The Jets started slowly with a 14-11 first quarter, but kept adding points to the buffer in each of the remaining three quarters. The only consistent scorer for the Power in the game was Jesse Bell (19.7ppg) who finished with 23. The absence of big man Shaquille Hohipa-Wilson (18ppg) was evident not only in the scoring column, but in rebounding and defense. The Jets capitalized on this by pushing the break and putting points on the scoreboard. Travis Ellis (22.2ppg) put up 23 points before fouling out and he had support from Jett Sukcharoen with 15 and Jake Geer with 8.

Ansett v Razzle

The Blues from Ansett blasted the Razzle 103-64 to claim their second win in a row. They are now only one game out of the top four and seem to be on a roll. Matteo Rowse (15.3ppg) and John King (20ppg) put together another great game between them with Rowse hitting 18, King 17 and Jake Feeney added 14 with three others in double figures as well. A 36-12 first quarter was enough to set the Blues on their way against the Green & Gold who failed to match the intensity of their opposite numbers. Nathan Radonich (8.9ppg) hit 16, Stuart Peace 15 @ 11.2ppg and Rob Oliver 13 @ 12.6ppg for the Razzle.

Eagles v Lightning

The Eagles used up their ‘get outa jail’ card against the Lightning to hold off a late rally for a 62-59 win to hang on to third place on the ladder. The Eagles had built up a 62-44 lead through a balanced team effort and looked home and hosed with just 4:38 left to play. The Lightning however refused to lie down and stormed back with 15 unanswered points to almost claim the win. Deola D’Folarin (21.5ppg) had 15, Henry Bui 12 and Ernest Holmes & Reece Turner 11 each. For the unfortunate Lightning, who it might be added, were without centre Craig Martin (24.7ppg), Cameron Bailey (16.4ppg) hit a team and game high 19 with Thomas Maher on 12.

Ladder: Uni Rebels 10-1, Palmerston Power 7-4, Eagles 6-5, Tracy Village Jets 5-7, Lightning 5-5, Ansett 4-7 & Razzle 1-9

Next week Round 14: Thursday – Palmerston Power v Lightning 8:00pm. Friday – Ansett v Eagles 6:30, Uni Rebels v Razzle 8:00pm, Bye – Tracy Village Jets
