Round 13

League Women – Thursday – Lightning v Eagles

Trish Graham hit a team high 15 to lead the Eagles to a strong 61-41 win over the Lightning to keep hold of the double chance when the playoffs begin in two weeks. The Eagles got off to a great start with a 20-10 run in the first quarter followed by a 17-7 run in the second for a twenty point first half lead at 37-17. The twenty point lead stayed pretty much within the Eagles clutches during the second half despite the efforts of the Lightning. Graham (13.9ppg) had help from Michelle Friel (13) and Faye Armstrong (12). Lightning’s Kira Pendlebury (12.4ppg) top scored for the game with 16.

Ansett v Palmerston Power

Ansett held off a late rally by the Palmerston Power to emerge victorious in their match by a narrow 61-57 margin. The Blues were cruising along quite nicely at the end of the third quarter with a 50-40 lead, but the Power put together a serious challenge to finish off the game just short of a winning effort. The Power outscored the Blues 17-11 in the last quarter. Tamara Sheppard (20.3ppg) lit up the scoreboard for the Blues with a game high 31 with Tamiyah Perkins adding 13. Brittany Ward (14.2ppg) did her best for the Power with 22 points getting help from Jennifer Kinsella (11) and Louise Turner (10).

Razzle v Tracy Village Jets

The Tracy Village Jets overpowered the last placed Razzle 90-24 for their 13th straight victory without defeat. Razzle didn’t stand a chance against the might of the Bombers. It took the Razzle 5 minutes to score their first points while the Jets were flying away with the game, leading 42-14 at half time. Tikesa Docherty-Cole (19.6ppg) led the Bombers with 26, Kylie Duggan (20.5ppg) hit 17, Erin Geer 13, Danielle Totham 12 and Tania Dhu 10. Erin Boyd (14.1ppg) hit 8 for the Razzle.

Men

League Men – Lightning v Eagles

The high flying Eagles knocked off the League leading Lightning 106-82 to grab a share of first place on the ladder with only two rounds left to play. The minor premiership is still up for grabs. The Birds set the tone for this game in the first quarter with a 31-20 run. They led 58-49 at the half. Jarrod Sheppard (20.7ppg) really got the Eagles pumped in the third quarter when he hit 3 treys in a row in less than a minute at the beginning of the quarter. He finished up with 5 treys for the quarter as the Birds went on a 31-12 run and an 89-61 lead to set up the win. Sheppard had a game high 30 for the game with Joseph Prophet (22), Joseph Johnson (18), Dirk Steenbergen (12) and Reece Turner (11) rounding out the scoring. Craig Martin (28.7ppg) led the Lightning with 26, Cameron Bailey 17, Steve Ting 13 and Tony Halikos 10.

Razzle v Tracy Village Jets

Darrin Weetra led the Tracy Village Jets to a 65-39 win over the Razzle. Weetra (14ppg) hit a game high 22 (including 6 treys). The Green & Gold did match up with the Jets in the third quarter, but by then the game was well and truly in the win column for the Jets. Maclachlan hit 18 and Bui 12 for the Bombers while Brendan Dell (11.2ppg) led the Razzle with 15 and Kayden Malseed hit 10.
