Round 4

Tonight was our first outing as a “real” team, after 2 weeks of selections and a bye last week.   The girls have been working hard at training on some new court systems, techniques and combinations.  I have been very impressed by their willingness to try new things and also the incredibly quick rate that they pick things up and run with them.

Our goalers were on fire.  Our score of 41 goals is the highest in the competition so far.  This was due to a high work rate from all three girls and some sharp, creative feeds from the mids. Celine, Steph and Issy are proving to be a strong combination and I was very proud of all of them tonight.

The mid court is just a pleasure to watch.  All 4 players work so hard.  Their skills are slick, their feet are fast and their passes (most of the time) are strong.  We did a lot of work on our centre pass systems at training, and they did a great job putting them on the court.  Brilliant job Tay, Ash, Mikki and Em.

Our defence end is also proving to be a strong combination.  We took some sensational intercepts and for most of the game we kept a lot of pressure on the opposition both in the circle and down the court.  All 3 defenders rebounded well and our defence of the shot was excellent.  All three girls contributed to a dominant defensive performance.  Good on you Kaity, Abbey and Tash.

We have a lot of hard work ahead of us and a lot of things to iron out and improve.  We also need to be mindful that we have had a reasonably gentle start to the season with some of the big, tough matches still to come in the next few weeks.   The signs are good though, and I am excited about the challenges ahead.  A quiet little pat on the back for a super performance tonight and now back to the training track!  What a great group of girls!
