Pinks Reserve Full Steam Ahead!!!
The Pinks Reserve Netball Complex is another huge step closer to becoming a reality.
On Tuesday night the Yarra Ranges Council voted unanimously in favour of the Town Planning application for the new netball complex at Pinks Reserve.
The planning application includes for 12 synthetic courts (7 with lights), new pavilion, 227 space car park plus upgrades to existing car parking areas to bring the total car parking to 881 spaces (a 400+ increase from what is currently available) and traffic lights at Liverpool Rd entrance. This covers everything we have requested. Attached is a copy of the planning application.
A HUGE thankyou needs to go out to our President, Toni Madden, who in the words of a councilor, "has been dogged in her approach" to getting the council to provide a new complex for LYVNA. Her work over the past 10+ years has been tremendous and her speech to the councillors on Tuesday was magnificent and certainly would have helped with any wavering councilors.
Also a special thankyou to all the clubs and committee that came to the meeting to support Toni. We had 40+ netball people in the gallery all dressed in their netball colours and uniforms. The gallery was full, with a number of netball people standing up in the back. This certainly helped our cause and was a great support for Toni as she made her speech. Afterwards there was lots of hugs and some tears as the enormity of what just happened set in.
What now???
With the funding ($6.5 million) secured and planning now all approved, we are full steam ahead. The car park and traffic light design is nearly complete and will likely be the first part to commence construction. The Pavilion and courts still need to go through the final design process but the architects and designers will hopefully be progressing through that quickly.
Over the next few months we will be able get a clear indication of timing of the project and we will update you then with an expected completion date.
This was a great day for LYVNA and that light at the end of the tunnel just got a lot bigger!!
