RYAN Knight's season ended with a horror injury yesterday, after the young Dragon had to be airlifted from Community Oval.
In the second division match between Moss Vale and Bundanoon, the Dragons held a convincing 40-10 lead before Knight went down.
Midway through the second half he got caught in a tackle the wrong way and reported sharp pains in his back.
First aid officers stabilised him and called an ambulance, which arrived a short time later.
Paramedics treated Knight and put him in an ambulance.
He had feeling in all his limbs but still had pain in his back.
It all then went horribly wrong and he took a turn for the worse.
Another ambulance was called to the scene to help treat Knight and with further treatment required the game was called off and a helicopter called to transport him to hospital.
The Dragons won the match 40-10 and progress through to the preliminary finals against Macarthur Bulls next week but Dragons skipper Damian Barton said it was a horrible way to finish the match.
Bundanoon coach Brett Breeze also said it was a sad way to finish the season and wished Knight the best.
"Our thoughts go out for the young fella from Moss Vale that was injured today and hope everything goes well for him because in rugby league you don't like to see injuries like that. Hopefully everything's right, that's the main thing."
